ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Shelly Waters, hailing from Rayne, Louisiana (the heart of Cajun country), has been singing and playing music all her life. She grew up in a French-speaking household, soaking up the swamp pop and other bayou sounds on her parents' radio. Fronting her first country band at the mere age of twelve, she has had a lifelong devotion to music. "Swamp Pop Princess", brimming with a dozen compelling original songs, is her long-overdue debut album, updating that classic swamp pop sound from a woman's perspective. She is now based in South Carolina, from which she and her band will be launching a national campaign to bring this fresh voice to a larger audience.

R2 (Rock 'n' Reel Magazine, UK) (Sept/Oct 2013 issue)

A fine debut!
With a fine debut on South Carolina's Erwin Records label (sic), Shelly Waters' name is coming to the fore.

Dominque LaGarde (Soul Bag magazine, Paris, France) (#212, Sept/

Sympathetique & unpretentious
Shelly Waters is a singer and guitarist who deals in swamp pop, a mixture of country, rock, Cajun, and blue-eyed soul. She is accompanied and produced by Shrimp City Slim on this, her debut album. The results are fresh, naive, and sincere, with lots of musical flavors including piano, accordion, fiddle and of course guitars. Overall, sympathetique (sympathetic / simpatico) and unpretentious. Three stars (out of five)!

Great dance music, too!
As always, a real pleasure for Debra and myself to be able to listen to and dance to your music. I really like the following songs and indicate, in parentheses, our dance of choice for each: "Living on a Memory" (swing); "Middle of the Road" (I would dance a rumba to it); "Diamond" (probably my favorite song on the CD - rumba); "I'll Tell You What" (swing). Keep up the good work!

Blues News magazine (Germany, June 2013)

Swinging party music
Smooth songs, enriched with pop elements based on classic Louisiana 'swamp pop' (rock 'n' roll, Cajun, country, and New Orleans R&B). Shelly sings with commitment and one can feel that her music comes from the heart!

Norman Darwen (Blues & Rhythm magazine, UK, #280, June 2013)

Well played, beautifully sung
That album title is a little misleading - not that Shelly does not do swamp pop among the dozen numbers here; she does, and extremely well, but she does so much more...all originals, well played, beautifully sung, and I look forward to hearing more from this combination of Shelly Waters and Shrimp City Slim!

Star in the making
This is one of the best new CDs by a woman singer I've heard in a long time. The tunes are great and Shelly has a fabulous voice. So much feeling here. Can't wait to go to see her again & glad I bought the album.

Warm, angelical (sic) voice...she will deeply impress you!
A new voice gifted with great charisma and a delicious simplicity appears with strength into the blues scene with a bright enthusiasm. Shelly Waters is slowly getting an outstanding place in the music world. Shelly has a warm, angelical voice which is highlighted by the backing work of some good able musicians (including fiddle, accordion, keyboards, sax, washboard) which gives a perfect background and put the right accent to make Shelly Waters feel comfortable and well supported. Shelly is also known as "the princess of swamp pop" and those who say it are probably right. The "princess" style is a mixture of southern Louisiana swamp music, together with New Orleans R&B, some West coast Gulf vintage rock'n'roll, and but also some East Texas cajun and ballads. An original musical mixture that naturally flows we re now lucky to listen to along her first album, thanks to Shrimp City Slim, the man who discovered her when he met her after she moved to Charleston, South Carolina. The result of joining their forces has been a very fruitful one. Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy this fine singer because I dare say she will deeply impress you. VERY GOOD!

This lady really has the touch
I have always loved swamp pop music and it's so nice to see a lady artist take a shot at it - great songs and she has a wonderful voice. I would say get this now and you can tell all your friends about it. They will thank you.

Best new sound around
Wait till you hear this one...great voice, great songs, hot band. Love that authentic swamp pop flavor and can't wait to catch Shelly live. Very impressive album!
