Album Notes

Shelter with Thieves

Four white males described as veteran musicians of the “Halifax Music Scene” have been reported breaking sound bi-laws across North America. The disturbances have been reported in major cities including, Toronto, Ontario, Austin, Texas, Los Angeles California, New York, New York, and of course, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The four tattooed males are known currently by their group name Shelter with Thieves. The bands high energy aggressive rock sound is unmistakable and usually performed at high volumes with large gatherings of followers, late in the PM to early in the AM.
The band’s founding members Mike Johnson, Matt Johnson, Squid Mullett, and Lloyd Smith have been funding their operation with the “Off-stage” and “On-line” sale of studio recordings. The most recent of these recordings is known on the streets as “A Dark Chapter in the Human Experiment”. Thought to have been produced by the band itself at Common ground studio in Halifax and released to the streets in November 2007 using their own label “…I thought you were dead!”. Shelter with Thieves have successfully been distributing what has been called, “an eclectic and cryptic mix of alternative, punk, rock, with smart, catchy melodies, and enough guitar to make you question your own existence.” and, “a sweaty stomping beast of a record.”
High quantities of “A Dark Chapter in the Human Experiment” have been confiscated by officials and have been made available to the public through CDbaby.com and the official band website www.shelterwiththieves.com.
By now Shelter with Thieves has amassed a following creating pandemonium and unrest in every city they perform. More public awareness is this offices primary mandate.
For more information regarding this matter please contact your local Shelter with Thieves Social club or the band’s official website.

REVIEWS

author: The Coast-Mark Black
Like an Atlantic-Canadian version of seminal post-hardcore act Quicks and, Shelter with Thieves incorporate elements of dissonance and melody on their latest release, A Dark Chapter in the Human Experiment. With imagery and lyrics that evoke dystopian modernity, bleak human-made landscapes and the psychological effects of our social environment, Shelter with Thieves' latest release is a sombre and frustrated offering that alternates between introspection and rage. Just returned from a Canadian tour, this Halifax quartet, featuring ex-members of Bucket Truck and Shyne Factory, has been an integral part of the alt-rock scene in this city for quite some time. Released in late 2007 on their own label, I Thought You Were Dead Music, this album further cements the band's reputation. Inspired by the likes of Refused, Trail of the Dead and Queens of the Stone Age, Shelter With Thieves dance a careful line through hardcore, metal and rock territory, sounding stronger than the sum of their parts. Featuring guest appearances by Jon Epworth (The Dean Malenkos), Pamela Under Water and Aaron Collier (JSB) and production by former hHead frontman, Noah Mintz, A Dark Chapter is a solid post-hardcore album with moments of urgency and aggression that calls to mind Helmet's unique style of alternative metal. Do you like rock
author: Jonny Stevens
If you don't like rock then go and crawl back into your flanel sheeted bed and shut up. If you sleep on broken glass and use sandpaper instead of bathroom tissue this record is for you. Two twins who can play like the devil herself taught them, paired up with a guitar player who has a demonic look in his eye and a bass player that thumps so hard he's cracked the very foundations of stages means the SWT is a hard rockin band not to miss. Thier videos have been banned by MUCH music and their live show will leave you weak in the knees. Buy this album and prove to your friends that you don't sit at home on a Saturday night in a bubble bath while they have all the fun!!!

Punk + rock = perfect
author: Steven Macdonald
I just got this in the mail. Valley of the Gun is killer. This band is a perfect mix of punk and rock. But it's not punk rock. It's something bigger. I really enjoyed Dance fucker Dance. Awesome drumming on the entire record. I can;t wait for another album.
