A fine and welcome debut in the tradition of california singer/songwriters, think of Kate Wolf with a honky-tonk band.

Album Notes

“Sherry’s music is a rewarding listen. With fresh melodies and believable lyrics, I’ll have to include it in my road trip collection. Cool voice, also!”
—Grammy-winning producer/musician Lloyd Maines

“Sherry Austin’s material has the rough-hewn sensitivity of a Robert Earl Keen, a Fred Eaglesmith or a Slaid Cleaves. But her powerful, clear voice adds a feminine dimension that is totally fresh. She’s got such a great voice. People listening across the country are going to get a whole new feel for a popular form because it’s coming from a woman’s perspective.”
—Tom Miller, booker, Henflings International Folk & Acoustic Concert Series

A relative newcomer to the acoustic Americana scene, Austin earned respectful notices for her debut album Drive By Romance, a down-to-earth, rootsy collection of philosophical ballads, thoughtfully detailed story songs — many about cars or characters on metaphorical journeys — and covers of influential songwriters like Gillian Welch and Slaid Cleaves. She and her band have earned more fans opening shows for John Hiatt, Jesse Winchester, Robert Earl Keen, David Bromberg, Iris Dement, and Slaid Cleaves. Not too shabby for someone who started writing songs just a few short years ago.

REVIEWS

One of the finest singers I've ever heard

How Sherry managed to avoid sharing her incredible talents with the world for so long is beyond me - but then again, only those who grow the heirloom plants know when the fruit is at it's peak. Sherry's work holds it's own with some of the better songwriters - and as far as singers go....look out. This lady is the real deal. Nothing contrived here. Imagine Joan Baez finding her voice these days and you'll be prepared for this CD.

Lots of emotion and honesty on this one!

The songs are sophisticated without ever being slick. Lots of emotion and honesty on this one! Some songs come welling up from out of the darkness and some lead you to the light. Others are just plain hot-rodding fun. And that voice...... MMMmmmmmm!!! I'm definitely a Sherryhead!
