Album Notes

Santa Cruz singer-songwriter, Sherry Austin’s rich voice is informed by a quietly amused, sometimes rueful understanding of life’s ever-turning cycles and the quirks of human nature.

Sherry’s convincing, as well as talented songwriting, has earned awards and high praise from her many live performances and from her first cd –‘Drive By Romance’. Her lyrics are alive with life experiences and have a refreshing down-to-earth feel.

With her second cd release, ‘Drive On Back’, Sherry’s writing evolves and ranges from sentimental, to political, and reflective aspects of life. Her four covers of Dylan/Old Crow Medicine Show, Tim O’Brien, Martha Scanlan, and Fred Eaglesmith are right on the money.

A regular on KPIG Radio’s live show, Sherry has opened concerts and festivals for Iris Dement, John Hiatt, David Bromberg, and others. She has attracted support from local press for her various benefit concerts and for her entertaining live concerts. Her music is rewarding, believable and sometimes humerous. She has an honest approach to songwriting that is very refreshing. Her stage presence is captivating, her storytelling passionate.

A Gem
author: David Whited
If she'd done this when she was younger she'd be a big star. There's a whole lot of love, a world- wise view, and a tremendous talent here. God Bless the Sherry Austins of the World for what they bring us.

Another great mix of riginal tunes and choice covers
author: Michael Gaither
"Another great mix of original tunes and choice covers. Retooling "Wagon Wheel" as a duet with Keith Greeninger is some kinda brilliant. The choir and rotating lead vocals (between Sherry, Ginny Mitchell, and Sharon Allen) on "Hallelujah" are just..."lush" (and I swear I've never used that word before). Nice to see that the car thread remains (with the title track), and I'm glad to finally have a recording copy of "The Sparrow" (my favorite Sherry original)."
