Album Notes

Sherry Ryan
Female Artist of the Year - Music NL 2006

Sherry Ryan was taking a job in a nursing home in the Mississippi Delta when she starting writing her first song: "I'm moving on from a darker place to a brighter one" Turns out that bright spot wasn't in the Delta but in her song writing. A fact that has taken her straight to the spotlight with the launch of her debut record Bottom of a Heart.

One year later, Bottom of a Heart has earned 4 nominations for this years Newfoundland and Labrador Music Awards including SOCAN song of the year for "One of Those Amazing Nights" and was #4 in the CBC Newfoundland & Labrador’s top 20 albums of 2005. It’s a real country record made the way albums should be made with songs that emote so well you don’t need to dress them up.

Bottom of a Heart has influences from both Classic Country and Appalachian Music. These sounds are combined with a strong undercurrent of Irish from Sherry's musical upbringing in Middle Cove, Newfoundland; a place where traditional Irish music is a powerful and vibrant force. The track "Don't Fall in The Water" is a perfect example of blended traditions bringing you back to a time where Irish ballads and Mountain Music were undivided.

Raised on a land fertile for storytelling, Sherry is a gifted lyricist who can take a personal experience and make it universal. These experiences are then transformed into beautiful melodies and sung with a voice so good – so distinct – it’s absolutely unforgettable.

"Bottom of a Heart is a good representation of Ryan's best foot forward. A gifted songwriter, these 14 tracks are her own, and clearly not one to be tied down stylistically, her future looks bright" Exclaim! Magazine
