Hello, my name is Sherwood. Thank you for checking out my debut CD, Here I Go. It’s a mix of new blues, old blues, originals, spirituals, an eight track flash-back and even an a capella rendition of an old Mississippi prison song. There is an acoustic version of Amazing Grace, where I play some old time slide. Of all fifteen cuts, "Two O'Clock in the Mornin" is the representation of what I call Authentic...Bedrock...Blues®. I hope it speaks to your heart the same way it speaks to mine.
The six originals represent my first effort at song writing. It is a humbling experience to have people from around the world write you and thank you for your music. It has touched me in a way that cannot be put into words. Sometimes it's not the destination...it's the journey.
We had a great time putting this CD together. It's my hope and dream that The Sherwood Blues Band can bring Authentic...Bedrock...Blues® to people everywhere in the twenty-first century. Next time you come to Washington, D.C., please go to www.sherwoodblues.com, and come out to one of our shows. Click on, and catch the wave!
Your friend,
Sherwood

Great debut CD with some original Sherwood Blues bound to become classics
author: Cal Donnolley
From the first few seconds of the first track you know your ears and soul are in for a treat. The mellow slide guitar draws you in gently and when the rhythm section and harmonica come in after the turnaround you know you are experiencing the Authentic...Bedrock...Blues!
On the 2nd track the Sherwood composition "Blues Get to Rollin'" sneaks up on you until a swaggering funky groove is established. Then that laid-back Sherwood vocal with its smooth inflections grabs your attention. The lyrics are pure essential blues. The bridge part nicely moves the tune to another sensation with a minor chord feel that sets you up for a wonderful sense of release when the original groove returns. It happens three times and is very addictive. This is masterful songwriting in any genre; and it gives the blues genre a modern nuance while retaining its roots in tradition. The arrangement is varied in subtle but effective ways and the harmonica and guitar leads are inspiring. "Blues Get to Rollin" is bound to become a classic.
Sherwood shows his knowledge of the blues in his other compositions on this CD as well. "Two O-clock in the Morning" has a style reminiscent of Long Distance Call and will also become a part of the Blues tradition for future generations of listeners. That ole time slide guitar takes you back to a different sense of place and time.
Those two Sherwood-penned numbers alone make it worth buying the CD. Take a listen and you'll know why I say this is a great CD debut from this up-and-coming blues man.

This CD makes you truly appreciate the spiritual and old part of the blues. The instrumentation is simple yet powerful, and every instrument fills the songs with the right volume and proportion. There are many different songs each with a different flavor, put together in a flawless way.
The work on slide guitar is simply fantastic, and the harmonica is also outstanding. The vocals could have been more powerful and colorful, that's why I gave it 4 stars and not 5.
I absolutely loved it.

I was deaf, but now I hear the blues.
author: Gladstone
I first heard the band a few years ago in a small club and have been a Woodhead ever since. I bookmarked the website and tried to keep up with the performances, and anxiously awaited the release of "Here I go".
It is better than I expected, the union of sounds that has been put together in this CD is second to none!!! The version of Amazing Grace, has never been so meaningful.
I bought several copies of the CD as gifts for friends and family this past year and they too have been moved by the music, and are looking forward to witnessing a performance.
You should definately add this to your collection!
