SheWho is a feminist women's vocal ensemble based in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania. We are dedicated to the beauty, power, and importance of women's voices. We sing to celebrate women, to express our diverse experiences of spirit and to promote social change. SheWho was started by Karen Escovitz in September 2000.
SheWho has performed locally in the Philadelphia area, and has also performed at the SisterSingers Network Choral Festival and at the National Women's Music Festival.
Our first album, The Earth Will Turn Over, contains highlights of our first years together, and includes several original compositions and arrangements. It was nominated for a 2005 OUTMUSIC award in the Outstanding New Recording by Chorus or Choir category.
We take our name from the SheWho poems by Judy Grahn
with Ms. Grahn's permission.
REVIEWS of the group:
"SheWho has a sound that is edgy and irresistable. This chorus is not afraid to push the 'sweet sound' of women's choral singing into the less predictable corners of polyrhythm and dissonance. The audience I was in jumped to their feet at the end of their set and cheered!"

"It was terrific in so many ways...I thought it was edgy, that the depth of purpose resonated with commitment and passion; it was exciting and is a needed and vibrant voice with feminist message..."

"Such professionalism and quality of vocals is often
lacking in choral CDs. Not so with this one.
Beautiful arrangements, beautiful voices. Truly a
treat to the ears."
