What a great name for an emerging group. 'Shine.' This is exactly what this quartet does, they shine - and blindingly so, this group is making some decent waves in the music scene, and it isn't surprising with the talent they've got.

Album Notes

If the music doesn't reach you, then the lyrics will, especially when delivered by this prodigious vocalist! They will leave an indelible impression somewhere within your subconscious, and you won't realize it until you find yourself humming one of the songs from the disc!

Shine is: Marnie Anderson (vocals), Jeff Fairbank (electric, acoustic guitars, backing vocals), Neil Bell (bass, backing vocals), and Matt Pavan (drums, percussion). Singularly, they are talented, together they are fantastic. The influences directing this group into music are all heavy hitters, from David Bowie to Stevie Ray Vaughn, and from Alex Lifeson to Stevie Wonder. They've got the musical talent, the dedication and professionalism, and they're definitely ready to light up the rest of the world. All the songs are original, and show not only creativity, but also sensitivity and understanding of human kind. 'Friend for the Night' starts the disc with a great rock/pop number. This is an energetic track, suited for the dance floor without a doubt. Marnie's vocals are sensual and travel from 'airy' to gritty for the chorus. This lady knows how to use her voice, and has a lot of power to call upon. There's some good guitar work, and the drums can't be missed. There is a rhythm to this one that calls to the internal rhythms of the human system. This is by far my favourite track on this disc. 'Time Will Lend a Hand' deals with the ending of a relationship. The lyrics reach deep on their own, but combined with Marnie's abilities, this one will drill through to your very soul. 'I can't believe its over / I don't really understand / But maybe when I'm older / Time will lend a hand' The backing vocals are some of the best I've heard in a while, their voices fitting together like jigsaw pieces to form a perfect whole. 'Fool' brings to mind a group that was extremely popular in the 70's, Heart.

The group really works together on this one, and it's a great combination of some different sounds. The rhythm and backing vocals provide a great platform for both the guitars and Marnie's impassioned delivery of the lyrics. It won't disappoint. For a first release, 'Gently Insane' is an almost unbelievable disc, each track is potent, and well worth a listen or many more! You won't go wrong by adding this to your collection. Give the group a listen at their website, and see what you think
