Album Notes

Shink is a four-piece from Kent, United Kingdom. The band write and record in a room above a garage on a four-track, squeezing out as much as possible from what little equipment they own.

The music itself is mostly derived from improvisation and experimentation which gives Shink its 'free' angle; It's all about capturing those happy accidental moments but not harnessing them down too tightly. This gives the music the space in which to evolve.

In 2001 Shink and friends 'Noise Bitch' created a collective of musicians and artists called 'The Mentalist Association'. In celebration they released a split E.P. and put on the first 'Mentalist Party'.

Since then The Mentalist Association has funded, produced and released records for various side projects of both bands and other local artists. There have been many more Parties and other gigs showcasing local art alongside music as well as party games, lots of mess and interactivity.

Shink's next planned release is an E.P. coinciding with a jam tapes compilation. The band's first album and split E.P. is available through the above website.

REVIEWS

author: Tamara Turner, CD Baby
Pairing the sexy grooves of bumpy electronica with beautiful distorted rock, hints of funk, shadowy pockets of emo rock and glorious dissonance, this British group wraps up a incredibly diverse sound that can take you from reverberating chill-scapes to propulsive, inistent boomers. With echoes of Mogwai, Tortoise and Sonic Youth, Shink will titillate fans of Brit pop, emo, downtempo and space rock individually and all at once. Perhaps the most distinctive color in this gloriously rich album is the multi-dimensional guitar work: from lush and circular, spacey and looping to funky and sassy to buzzy and crackly, that element alone is reason enough to buy the album.
