Shiva Subcontractor is the newest project from Cyril of WaterJuice fame and Jovis, performer extraordinaire. these chaps are San Francisco psy-scene refugees that have moved towards concept-driven music. we included the whole album because it's so damned good. it's deep and driving but not just in the beats: Shiva Subcontractor remarries the the bass with the rhythm with heavy didgeridoo that's been warped and modified. did we mention the mouth harp? who ever thought that didg and mouth harp could be made to sound so psychedelic?

This is a top notch psychedelic chill album loaded with some of the best didgeridoo that I have heard. Nicely layered, richly textured soundscapes with a wicked array of broken beat rhythms and melodic hooks. I don't give it 5 stars only because there are a few psychill albums that exist that are on another level. But this one isn't that far off from pure greatness. It just isn't completely original. But make no mistake, it is a sensational listening album and very worthy of being added to your collection. Recommended ! Read more...
