Album Notes

Shiver was a hard-hitting, raw bar rock band from Kansas City that broke up in 2003. They were chosen from 40 bands as the 2001 Kansas City/Lawrence area representative in the Jim Beam Rock Band Search and competed at the Hard Rock Cafe in Denver in July of that year. Shiver had been a finalist twice in 2002 Battle of the Band competitions and was selected for Helzberg's 2003 "Diamonds in the Rough" college CD.

Mid-Western Rock to Die For
Under Skin is a must in the Rock-O-Holic's collection. With its solid driving bass and drum lines, the insane guitar work, and off the wall vocals this CD has it all. God sure knew what he was doing when he put these four guys in a room together. I would recomend this to anyone, don't believe me.......see for yourself!

Good sounding distortion. I'm liking the vocals a lot. Good style and they blend with the music perfectly. Seriously, good tune guys. I like rockers that don't mess around. Just get in there and kick some ass. Keep it up. Later.

Nice 'n bassy
Lots of low end. The guitars sound great. The vocals are a little loud and take away from the overall impact of the bass and guitar working together. Pretty good song, the chorus pulls everything together.

The album is a collection of infectious, no frills, hard rock tunes.
author: Scott Alisoglu
Shiver's Under Skin is best served with some cold longnecks in a sweaty rock club. The album is a collection of infectious, no frills, hard rock tunes. In fact, much of the album reminded me of late 80s hard rock, with moments of L.A. Guns and Ratt. The songs have a down and dirty guitar sound with melodic vocal delivery. Lead man Bill Cameron's voice is, at times, Jon Bon Jovi. Jason Nokes churns out some memorable, rough-edged riffs. His solos are played to fit, not to show off. I especially liked his work on "Golden," which showcased a variety of riffs with some sharp leads. There's also a distinct absence of effects on his guitar. He plays it like he feels it. In an era where the guitar solo in rock music is dying a slow death, it was refreshing to hear Jason's nasty licks. Cameron's vocals are smooth and AOR-friendly. But they can get nice and sleazy when it counts, most notably on "L.U.S.T." The tune has a great groove that should rip live. The rhythm section of Bret Boule (bass) and Rocky DeAngelo (drums) lays down a solid bottom. The title track and "Addicted to You" are definitely standouts, both of which have some great hooks that stuck in my head. I didn't hear any filler on Shiver's debut, although the album's last track, "The Words That You Said and the Bottle to Your Head" had me a bit puzzled with its Johnny Cash-style country western flavor. The album also passed the car stereo test -- roll your windows down and check these guys out.
