Artist: Shoboat
Cleveland, Oh.
Shoboat began writing lyrics at the age of 13. By 17 he was recording and producing for the neighborhood rap heads including his first song, "Young Ballers". It would not be long before this hobby would turn into a full time career.
"Shoboat", a name that derived from a childhood nickname, would prove to be his claim to fame as he uses it to define his grand standing style. While his roots are planted in the influences of West Coast rap his product is a mix of East Coast truck bangers, Midwest swang, and give an amplified version of the usual southern bass tracks.
The first album, "The North Star" sold out in it's first week on the market placing Shoboat in the game with his first single, "Ball Out" a soon to be club anthem. His words cleverly clash over infectious beats on the up tempo joints and his laid back attack on the slower tracks display both his lyrical confidence and versatility. His bragging and boasting are well earned as he cancels any and all competition in this repetitive market.
"What do you bring to the table that no one else has brought before and what makes people want to stay and eat?"
Shoboat: I bring a real life perspective to the game, and I live what I say so I talk about real things people do, and that I have done. There is nothing watered down, but people can relate to it. Cleveland has been waiting for someone like me so I'm here to go all out. "How do you plan on keeping your audience's attention and maintain longevity?"
Shoboat: I'm putting Cleveland back on the map because it hasn't been represented in a long time. Plus, I'm bringing out a new part of Cleveland- Kinsman, Harvard, Union, and surrounding areas not just the usual areas and streets people associate with Cleveland. I understand that I have the weight of the whole city on my shoulders so success is the only option for me.
"What edge do you think you have over the average rapper?" Shoboat: I am very strong-minded about my decisions and understand there's more than one level to the game. My skin is tough enough to endure all the ups and downs of the business- no question. I have the advantage of knowing the production, executive and artist aspect, which keeps me steps ahead of the average rapper.
"What should your audience be left with after listening to one of your albums?"
Shoboat: Just to do what you do- and do it well, my music is for kickin' it when you flauntin' in your ride, shinnin' and grindin', or when your up in the club.
With his persistence and determination Shoboat is destined for stardom, it is indeed his time to shine.
