Album Notes

"Sometimes Through the Static" is the latest release by Shoeshine Blue. Recorded during a rainy Portland winter, this album is on the mellow side for Shoeshine, less blues and more mood. A great soundtrack for driving through the night, leaving lovers and family behind in a city you no longer belong in. It's an album about estrangement and memory. The magazine, MUSIC LIBERATION PROJECT said, "The only thing that sucks about this album is that it's only six songs."

Shoeshine Blue is songwriter Michael Apinyakul along with friends and other musicians. "Sometimes through the Static" features the lovely Shawn McLain on violin and vocals, and a ghostly recording with Chris Canipe at Floating World Studios, located in a run down warehouse in a quiet strip of the midwest.

Let's cut to the chase..."Famous" is one of the best songs I have ever heard. Matter of fact, there are lyrics and guitar phrases all over this album that will make you want to pack your bags and ditch folk song writing because Shoeshine has you beat. And the back-up by Shawn, with her subtle yet ringing voice. Wow. And the drums, Wow again.

shoeshine blue is blues for the brain and the heart.

What I love about this album is it's sense of space and composure. Yet it is quite moving, blending a fictional literary voice with the heart of the person behind the pen. I felt like I had just read a collection of short stories. This is not to say, however, that this album is all brain and lyric and no music. Musicaly, it swoons and creshendos with great skill, silky tone, and originality.
