Having been inspired by the gothic works of Midnight Syndicate, Dead Can Dance, James Bernard's classic Hammer Horror film scores, Danzig and Disney's Haunted Mansion, Short thinks of his compositions as soundtracks to films that never existed. Just like scores to films that stand on their own outside of the films they were composed for these soundscapes transport the listener to dark and foreboding places.
"I compose what I see in my head. As scenes develop and form in my mind's eye I find they are accompanied by music". With the music technology that's available today, Short has finally been able to share these thoughts for the first time. "I'm more composer than musician. My compositions come from my gut. If it sounds right and feels right I keep it and toss the rest".
"I love movies and all the disciplines involved". From acting, directing, writing, visual effects, (he won and Oscar for his work on "Beetlejuice") this is the first time Short has had the opportunity to venture into scoring.
His compositions are less about structure and more about storytelling. "My goal with this album is to take listeners on a journey through a dark world filled with graveyards, forests, catacombs and ominous castles. It is a place where mystery, terror and romance will engulf them. It's about feelings more than the music itself".
"I'm sure you will enjoy these dark environmental interludes enhanced with just the right sound effects to punctuate the mood". So, now curl up with that favorite gothic novel or contemplate what next Halloween holds in store for you and join us for an "Endless Night".

Finally, scary music with good taste
author: Andy Wolf
Tired of the same old, same old… you know sound effects that try to pass themselves off as scary music. Finally, I’m hearing a CD with “scary” music that has substance and story. I’m not sure what the musician was thinking when he wrote these tracks, but keep it up!!
