Album Notes

To Kill a Spy is a soundtrack album to a 60’s secret agent TV series that never existed. Inspired by the compositions of soundtrack composers such as John Barry, Lalo Shifrin, Jerry Goldsmith, Ron Grainer, Gerald Fried, Morton Stevens and Robert Drasnin this original album is intended as an homage to the style created by these diverse talents. The tracks range from edge of your seat suspense sequences, explosive countdowns and chase scenes to subtle jazz tracks found playing in the background of a casual dinner in a restaurant.

“I compose to what I see in my head. As scenes develop and form in my mind’s eye I find they are accompanied by music”. With the music technology that’s available today, Short has finally been able to share these thoughts for the first time. “I’m more composer than musician. In the same way my film work strives to ignite the viewers emotions I try to accomplish the same thing with my music”.

“I love movies and all the disciplines involved”. From acting, directing, writing, visual effects, (he won and Oscar for his work on “Beetlejuice”) this is the first time Short has had the opportunity to venture into scoring.

His compositions are less about structure and more about storytelling. “My goal with this album is to take listeners on a wild ride through an action filled world from the 1960’s spy craze filled with tongue-in-cheek dastardly plots, beautiful women, guns and custom cars. James Bond may have set the trend rolling but this album pays homage to the style set by the spies who invaded every ones homes on a weekly basis like The Man from U.N.C.L.E. , I Spy, The Avengers, The Prisoner, Mission Impossible and many more, too numerous to mention here.

Enjoy it as background music or inspiration for you own adventures in espionage. How cool is that ? The choice is yours....should you decide to accept the assignment.
