Album Notes

Though most associate Shrimp City Slim with the Carolina Lowcountry blues and the Charleston, SC music scene in general, "Ancestor Worship" chronicles his Boston combo of the same name, active in the early '80s.

"AW: The Boston Sessions" offers a landslide of quirky original songs with jazzy overtones, mostly band tracks with a handful of solo piano/vocals pieces tossed in for good measure.

Some of SCS's excellent bandmates at the time (Cliff Lott, jazz pianist now based in LA; Doug Nally, world-travelled jazz drummer; the late Bart Calobrisi, vocals; Craig Hlady, faculty of Berklee; Larry Atamaniuk, drummer from Sea Train, etc.) later toured and recorded with the likes of Stanley Turrentine, Freddie Hubbard, and others. Their talents are captured on tape during these sessions.

The songs themselves are deliciously offbeat and delivered with flair. While not really a blues album per se, we think that "Ancestor Worship" will tickle your curiosity and allow you a different glimpse of Shrimp City Slim's compelling music.

Despues de apreciar los otros CDs de Shrimp City Slim, llego a "Ancestor Worship", una obra muy interesante y tan lejos de su sonido del momento. Bravo y recomendado.
