notes

From the worldly to the unearthly, this first EP by Shrine for the Black Madonna delivers a slow-burn to the brain.

SHRINE FOR THE BLACK MADONNA mixes furiously seductive acid-pop with bursts of dub, African metal, soul, and more. Featuring Brian Tate (vocals) and Jared Hassan Foles (all instruments), the EP depicts a world where love is a burning force that can heal or destroy. Eerie and explosive, shimmering with melodies.

I'm not really into rock, but this is kinda cool. It's funky, and they got some nice hooks. Does Runners have something to do with the WTC? Eerie and powerful sound.

  • Cool

I like it...........kinda makes me think of Frank Sinatra meets Deep Purple with Hendrix on guitar playing like their opening for the Bad Brains. Definitely different. Very Cool.

Hey......this CD is HOT!!!!!! HOT!!!! HOT!!!! They came to DC back in October and played outdoors at Taste of DC. They ROCK DA HOUSE!!! So catchy and familiar and still like nothing I can say I've heard before. Get this, and see them live!!

It sounds so Eastern influenced........surprising coming from two guys in Brooklyn......so heavy and yet so catchy and melodic with out being corny or overly macho (how could they be with a name like Shrine For The Black Madonna!!!) The liner notes about the Black Madonna are quite interesting, and definitely put this band in a class by themselves. Considering the amount of $16-$20 garbage CD's that so called "major" label acts are putting out nowadays, this is a huge awakening from a talented bunch and for only 10 bucks I know where my money is gonna go! Long live the Shrine For The Black Madonna!!!

  • Incredible!

This is an incredible piece of independent work. It is NOT A LIVE CD recorded at CBGB! I actually know the studio where it was recorded (produced by the guitarist, Jared Hassan) but it definitely harnesses the fire and power of a live show. I can hear so many things in their music that it's hard for me to define them in any genre, but they are one of the most creative and original songwriters and performers I've come across in a long time. Absolutley work the money!!!

  • This is a live album that has tight crunchy arangements with lyrics and vocals t

I love the fact that this live album is recorded at CBGB's the arangements are tight and crunchy with eastern meters.Vocals cryptic with an other-worldy melodic sense. I want a lyric sheet. One
