This raw and lightly produced CD is a must for fans of Sally's later music. The bluegrass style and familial harmonies transport the listener to a back porch in the Arkansas Ozarks.

"Although she shares a regional home and an unpolished vocal style with Iris Dement, Shuffield's decade-long stay in the Western states has tinged her song-writing with themes of coyotes and canyons, as well as lost love and rambling songs...There are plenty of reasons to be glad Shuffield rode west."
No Depression
Sally's debut CD, "Backroads Of My Mind," is a collection of 9 original songs and one cover tune. Greg Schochet, one of Colorado's best mandolin players, co-produced the CD, along with Sally and her sister Alice. The CD has sparse instrumentation (only guitar, mandolin, and Alice's flute on one song,) but the balance is just right. The CD creates a live feeling of listening to music on the back porch. The mandolin and guitar solos are supurb, as well as the vocal harmonies of Sally and her sister Alice, who have sung together since their childhood in Arkansas.
The songs on the CD include some audience favorties, such as the ballad of "Lila and Jack," the "Hummingbird Cafe," and the early signature song,"She Ain't no Emmylou Harris." These story songs are poinant images of life in the mountains of Colorado, sung with a touch of Sally's Arkansas roots. This revealing first CD is a must for fans of Sally's later music.
"Backroads of my Mind" was recorded by Mike Gworek at 4th Stage Studio in Boulder, Colorado. It was mixed and mastered by Peter Fiori at Hog Studio in Nederland, Colorado.
