The 1996 masterpiece from the legendary Shu. This was the band at the height of their popularity and recorded amidst a breakneck touring schedule. The band mixes rock, ska, jazz, and improv into a wildly original sound.

Album Notes

Shu traveled the East Coast of these great United States throughout much of the 1990's. They were one of a handful of experimental genre-crossing bands that played the college circuit during that time.

Shu still lives. The band reformed in 2000 after a three year hiatus. Another studio album was recorded at that time. It too will soon appear on these pages.

In 2005 saxophonist Matt Carl got back on board and the crew was complete. We now play regionally on a monthly basis and expect to hit the studio again in the coming months. This recording and others are being reissued with the launch of our new record label GFR Records.

Fanagalo was recorded in 1996 at the peak of the band's popularity and amidst a whirlwind touring schedule. It is, for many fans, the definitive studio recording of Shu. It's all here... wild improvisation, funk, ska, pop hooks, dance beats, and deep space moods. Shu rocks.
