Album Notes

This is the culmination of the "A Low Watt Document" series. This issue, subtitled "Melodic Marvels" is being released approximately nine months after the prelude release of the "Low Watt" series... that's the same amount of time it takes to gestate a fetus. "A Low Watt Document" has been my baby since its conception back in early 2001. This project has survived a number of cataclysmic events; the World Trade Center catastrophe, several computer crashes, a move, several postage rate hikes and lots and lots of scrutiny.

The series has also received much exaltation from some of the best music publications and college radio stations on the scene. And, thankfully, it has received much acclaim from many of Shut Eye's consumers. This issue transcends the rudimentary prerequisites of the college radio broadcast and documents what is happening at present on the non-commercial airwaves. Its challenge the listener to put away their musical biases and critical exterior for the opportunity to hear new sounds and refurbish erstwhile beliefs of the new sounds of college radio.

These melodic marvels contain some familiar genres, as well as unfamiliar varieties, and many other hook laden phenomenon. This is the real sound. This is the new sound. This is the now sound. This is college radio in the new millennium. This is "A Low Watt Document"!

REVIEWS

Some gems on there.

Well this CD is full of the "pop rock" college sound, but it suprised me with a few curveball tracks...such as Bobyn Ragland's LOVE, LOVE, LOVE she sounds like a hot country chick....Track 10 by G.F.E. is a real standout a revolutionary but mellow hip-hop track that gets the head noddin and the fist pumpin',,,,,the track entitled Bad by Lesley Dount is quit interesting,,,,,the rest of the cd is good if you like alt. rock....

All in all this cd is worth the listen. It is a virtual caleidascope of everything college radio has to offer. Everything from rock to powerpop to hiphop to techrock and everything in between abound on this release. I didn't bargain on this much diversity when I bought it, but it is refreshing... Standout tracks were GFE's "Natural Law" which is a mix of lyrical hip-hop and tribal melody, Superczar's "House of No Windows" quite possiblly the wierdest yet memorable track ( it is virtualally undescribable), and The Runes "When You Were Real" which reminded me of the Velvet Underground in the new millineum. The rest of the album is also worth taking a listen to as it can never grow old to a lover of diverse music....
