Album Notes

Siddhartha Sankar Chaudhuri was born in Howrah, W. Bengal, India. He began training at the age of five under his father, the late Tara Prasad Chaudhuri, who was a disciple of the legendary Ustad Amir Khan. He then trained rigorously under his grand uncle Pandit Adinath Chaudhuri, a renowned musicologist and disciple of Sangeetacharya Pandit Tarapada Chakraborti (a.k.a “Tiger of Bengal").

Further development of his music came from listening to various artistes such as: Amir Khan, Bade Gulam Ali Khan, Mallikarjun Mansor, Rajan and Sajan Mishra, Pandit Jasraj, Rashid Khan, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Abdul Karim Khan, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and others.

His music is also inspired by the reading of novels such as “Jean Christov” by Romarola and from outdoor pursuits such as sea-beach & forest trekking.

Siddharth’s career in Indian classical music started in 1997 when he accompanied Pandit Prabhakar Karekar at the prestigious 44th Annual DOVERLANE Conference in Calcutta.

He also accompanied Pandit Prabhakar Karekar in Durgapur Rabindra Bhavan and Asansole Rabindra Bhavan in W. Bengal in 1998.

In 1997 he was the youngest recipient of the prestigious “Sachin Dev Burman” award from Tripura for vocal music.

Since then he has been recorded extensively. One title, “Rejoice” released by Rageshree Music, is available through The Asia Society in New York.

He has worked on the scores of several film productions in India and USA. He has also performed for the Tara Bangla, Zee TV and ATN World television networks of India.

He has a feature credit as a singer in the Bengali feature film “Bhalo Theko”, directed by Gautam Halder and nominated for Guttenborg International Film Festival.

Most recently, Siddharth has recorded for the music of Ryan Shah's electronic project Time Spy. The new CD release of this music, entitled "Sadda Sidd Remixes", is available on www.CDbaby.com as well as on many digital download sites including iTunes.com.
