Album Notes

Side Affects is a collaboration of songwriting between Ralph Roddenbery, Scott Mecredy and Michael Hurwitz. One night in Macon, GA after a show, the three writers holed up in a motel room and wrote three of the 12 tunes on this record. That morning at sunrise they broke out into the light and headed to Rose Hill Cemetery. They made the pilgrimage to Duane and Barry - on down the hill to Elizabeth Reed. She’s famous because the Allman Brothers named a tune after her. They noticed that her daughter Maud was buried next to her, along with her baby. She died young, in child birth, and they figured Maud deserved her own song too. There was a flower - a single yellow flower, growing between the stones of her mother’s grave. A mocking bird sang in the tree above, and the first track on this record breathed in life. Later they repeated the experiment by holding up in a house at the beach for 10 days. Recording what they thought was a good demo of some songs they've written together. That demo became this record, with the help of several friends who love the songs, which is what this recording is about - the songs. It’s simple, and raw, and tells a story of hope and desperation, holding on, and letting go, wonderment and wandering, failure.....and redemption.

I first heard HDL Walkin on Pandora and instantly gave it a "thumbs up" so that I could hear it again. Since then I have scrambled to find more from him. I hope to see him in concert somewhere soon.
