From Derek Sivers @ CD Baby: Rodrigo Sigal is a Q-Tip. Empty everything you've ever heard out of your head, and replace it with Manifesto. It's THAT good. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING ALBUMS IN THE STORE. Forget "regular" music. "Manifesto" is brilliantly creative, sonically beautiful, and mind-opening. HIGHLY recommended!

Format: 5 song CD Some people see the world from a completely different vantage point. Such is the case with aural artist Rodrigo Sigal. His compositions paint remarkable soundscapes which stimulate the imagination, using comparisons and contrasts through variations in sound. Sigal uses traditional musicians and their respective instruments as the base for his experimentations. He weaves intricate sound tracks beneath the individual instrumental pieces to create his magic. "Babel" uses the extreme contrast of the simple tones of Harrie Starreveld's flute against the harsh complexity of human and digital noise. The result is a strange balance that could be a reminder that there is a way to find peace in our increasingly hectic modern world. The confusion of clanging church bells competing with a quiet solo piano is the climax of "Fe". Sigal appears to be examining the conflict of religious faith; each of us has a unique perspective, a personal way of looking at God. Another highlight is "Lagarto", which uses a complete ensemble of instruments working together against a mixed background of crowd and nature sounds. It is an optimistic piece, implying that nature and humans can live together in harmony. Rodrigo Sigal has the rare ability to go beneath the superficial, and what he has uncovered is stirring and thought provoking. He has gone beyond the emotional elements of music to find its naked spirit. MISH MASH Mandate: Deep discernment

Rodrigo Sigal Manifesto CIEM 006: Sigal@city.ac.uk This is "on the edge stuff" and I love it. A mesmerizing blend of classical chamber music and avant garde, replete with ambient noise, synths, loops and sampled real life noises. The opening track has an Edgar Varese vibe going with a steely flute and lots of curious strangeness. Track 2 starts with piano themes and then dives into the deep end. There are flashes of melancholic strings and other orchestral timbres amid the collage of sounds. Stereo effects abound, and I dare you to pull on the headphones! Sigal comes from Mexico and the liner notes are in Spanish and English. If you were like me and listened to Revolution No. 9 on the Beatles White Album all the way through, everytime, and actually enjoyed it -- you will surely enjoy this brilliant CD immensely. Very cool. Very moving. Very 20th century. Review by: http://www.keystonenet.com/~jesch/osp/reviewsMusic.htm

Rodrigo Sigal Manifiesto (CIEM) reviewed in issue #170, 10/26/98 Not what most folks would think of when the term "classical music" comes up. Sigal likes to keep his compositions simple (usually based around one instrument, be it piano, guitar, flute or whatever), but hardly conventional. He dribbles in sampled and taped sound as he sees fit, and his melodies are not easily described, either. While unusual, Sigal's music is rather inviting. He easily draws in the listener with a simple entrance, and then proceeds to slowly, but completely, shatter reality and craft a new world. There are elements of the noise and ambient movements in his pieces, but he uses those ideas in wholly new ways. And while he sets a pretty opening, he never fails to challenge thoughts, ideas and perspectives. Sigal is certainly a modern composer, and he uses every tool at his fingertips to create his music. Music which never fails to dazzle. Most impressive composition. Worth searching out and cherishing. Review by: Ading and Abetting http://cent.com/abetting
