bridging the gap
author: Casey
I never heard of Tristeza, Six Parts Seven, The Mercury Program until I after I heard Signal Hill. The band opened up a door of a whole new genre of delicate, melodic, and talented music. It was one of those records that got me right away and this is very rare with my musical past. It generally takes me a few listens to "get" a record, but not this time. This is a must own for any serious musical fan, despite your primary genres or scenes.
Kudos.

Perfect nighttime music
author: James Wilks
Signal Hill's debut EP is the perfect soundtrack to driving around the city at night, with no particular destination. Maybe it's raining a little bit, and the city lights are slightly blurred through the wet windshield. This is the feeling I get when listening to this EP. The music is so beautiful and mesmerizing. "This New Year's Absence" features some really spacey guitar work. All the tracks are great though. I've just recently gotten into shoegaze and post-rock, but I already know that Signal Hill could very well be the future of the genre. And if you like this EP, you should check out The Union Trade, another great shoegaze/post-rock band from California, also available here at CDBaby!

Dreamy, twinkling, gorgeous.
author: Stephen Chamberlain
Probably the most promising group in post-rock right now, the band plays music in the vein of Maserati, Tristeza, Unwed Sailor, and American Football. This album is gorgeous journey of shimmering lights, wistful glances, and aching hearts...without a single lyric. This is the music to accompany you in reveries to any locale; sweeping and swirling around you with atmosphere simultaneously warm and icy. Comes in an elegant yet simple digipack. And if the live video they have on their myspace profile is any indication, the upcoming full-length should destroy. Labels and potential fans alike: take notice!

Very creative. Electronic and energetic, yet pretty.
author: James Shellhorn
The first two tracks really got my attention. The music starts with some cool-sounding, creative effects and the energy builds, becoming more complex, sometimes in layers. Energetic and electronic. A nice find.
