Simcha Kanter's Wellsprings is an infectious and uplifting collection of nigguns, chasidic melodies, and other songs--primarily ballad-y interpretations of Tehillim (psalms). Warm guitars, tight jazzy drums, and sometimes horns support Simcha's singing. His voice is mellow and endearing; his voice has an earnest quality that rarifies the listening experience. I put this on at a fabrangen and a bunch of rabbis and berochem began to sing along... soon you couldn't hear Simcha anymore and it didn't matter. Isn't that the point?
