not just for grownups
author: megan hicks
Perfect narration for a couple of grownups on a long drive. Brooks does this thing with fairy tales -- he leaves all the enchantment, all the atmosphere in place and somehow manages to make them sound contemporary. Long after the stereo clicked off, I played his stories in the private screening room of my own imagination. One CD provided hours of pleasure!

Creative and Fun Collection with Stories and Music
author: K. Sean Buvala
"A Tangle of Tales" from storyteller Simon Brooks is far from a messy snarl at all. Rather, it is full of appealing stories. With stories from Celtic lands, Vietnam and India, Simon creates a smooth and enjoyable set of stories that never knot up your mind. Told with his genuine British accent and featuring custom music by the storyteller and friends, Simon gives you a story set this is overall rather calming yet might surprise you in how quickly the layers of the tales take you into their welcoming.
In one small critique, the track listings do not line up with what is printed in the package. It seems that the music in between tracks has not been taken into account. You might find it a bit of "hide and seek" when you first try to find the stories on your CD player. On an otherwise excellent CD, this is a minor point.
These days, with the new electronic ways that people buy CDs and tracks of music and stories, not everyone gives as much thought to the CD case as Simon has. Frankly, like all of his CD collections, the artwork is excellent. The teller and the artist (Rob Brookes) have joined forces to create both a visual and auditory adventure.

Since then he has gone from strength to strength. On my next visit to the US from England I would hope to be able to again watch Simon perform .
