In Simon’s music there is a deep down connection to the golden source of great songs. With his debut album, A Beautiful Way To Drown, the Gold Rush is on.
Recorded at Bright Orange Studios in Los Angeles with co-producers Matt Forger (Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney) and Jon Mattox (The Young Dubliners), Drown introduces Simon as a fully-formed contender for pop-legend status. The project attracted world-renowned talents like bass-player Lee Sklar (James Taylor, Jackson Browne), guitarist Shane Fontayne (Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon), drummer Jay Bellerose (Marc Cohen, Madeliene Peyroux), bassist Freebo (Bonnie Raitt, John Mayall, CSN) and Jennifer Condos(bassist in Ryan Adams' "The Cardinals"). Drown is a musical beauty worthy of a wide audience.
Born in Denmark and raised in the beautiful steppes of Greenland, Simon’s early years were spent outside of school, at play, often helping to tend his neighbor’s sheep. He was constantly exposed to music and storytelling by his multi-talented father Karl, who played accordion with the "Greenlandic Bob Dylan" Rasmus Lyberth, and also worked with Eskimo folklore in the Tukak Theatre Group.
Simon now resides in Washington State in an obscure location with very fresh air.

A Great Album

Somehow Mr. Lynge got on Gap Inc.'s radar and wound up on Old Navy's in-store soundtrack and I am so glad that he did, otherwise I probably never would have found such an amazing artist. My coworker and I were blown away the first time we heard "If You Go". We spent days entering the lyrics into various internet search engines only to come up with no results. Finally, we caught the song playing again and forced our manager to run to the office and check who was playing. Once I had his name I came here and bought the album right away and am so happy that I did. This album is a gem, with tracks like "London Town" and "If You Go" being extraordinary standouts in an album full of wonderful songs. Simon needs to have more of a fan base, he is too good to be missed.

The best CD I own.
author: Aaron James
I met Simon when he started coming to my open mic in Port Townsend, and in a town full of incredible musicians, he stood out like the sun in a sky full of stars. I bought all three of his CDs right away, and have had the priveledge to sit in on hand drum with him a few times.
This CD is by far the best CD I own. It's inspirational and uplifting tone is rare and wonderful. Strong melodies, intricately woven nuance and amazing embellishments laid onto a VERY solid base of lyrical magic and guitar masterwork. I know this guy, but I do not lie! this is one of the best CDs I have heard in the last several years.
Touching, inspiring, intelligent... AMAZING!

Finally the physical cd is here, I've checked the cdbaby-site almost every day for half a year :)
Simon Lynge, this man deseverves a major audience! Sometimes music just strikes a universal chord in people. I warn you; this will touch you.
What a mature expression. Smooth and refreshing fingerpicking, great voice, and above super-strong melodies vividly arranged.
It's only june, but will surely be my album of the year. An artist like this you only find once every leap year :)
Check out his EPs too: "6 Sketches" and "Beyond My Skin". They are extraordinary too.
If you are into acoustic music i.e. Teitur, you will be blown away by SL.

Wow!

I've finally gotten to listen to Simon Lynge's “A Beautiful Way to Drown” CD. You see, I first heard Simon at a café with just his guitar and sumptuous voice. As soon as he started playing I felt something come alive in me. I've also had the occasion to hear him make absolutely wonderful music with just a cardboard box and tin measuring cups. So, to hear these tunes with a full band, recorded in a studio with professional engineers and producers who have a long history in music was a sheer joy. It's otherworldly. It transported me, from the very first notes, to that internal space where I feel most human. It completely satisfied the need I feel when I seek music. Like coming home to a bright warm house and a holiday feast in the middle of winter.
I could go on at great length about each of these tunes. Collectively they cover a great breadth of emotion and intellect; worry, angst, affection, hope, ambition, care, history, culture. All adding up to a modern spirituality that leaves nothing behind. Especially a deep connection to the ancient, to the land, water air. I hear in these songs the full width & depth of humanity.
These are also the kind of tunes that pop-up revisit you hours or days after you've listened to them. Like the melody of “House of Sand” while I'm caught up in a mundane work task. Or “If You Go” when an attractive woman sidles into the seat in front of me on the bus ride home from work. “London Town” when I'm tired and away from home & folk. “Bird's Eye View” when I see history I don't like developing. And that Bonus Track, “The Future,” (which you can only, and must, get by purchasing the CD or going out to one of his gigs) never, ever fails to restore in me the faith, hope and gorgeous beauty of being human.
Get this CD! Go to one of Simon's gigs! Get infected by the voice & hands of this beautiful man! It will change the world in and around you.
