3+ dudes make good, and they mean it

On their third album Simple People finally create a sound that gels. In fact, to describe the songs with one word would be to say “solid.” Not that their first, self titled record and Lomax-inspired acoustic follow up are in any way lacking. But on “What We Meant from the Beginning” Simple People find their sound and express it in a way that fits the warm personality and raw energy of their live performances.
Some highlights are the honest and authentic treatment of relationships and identity in ‘she said’ and ‘see beyond.’ These songs openly explore human complexities in genuine and, yes, simple terms that are so scarce in contemporary pop music. In my personal favorite “each individual,” they bluesily tear into the perpetual frustration of the artist who finds himself surrounded by well-intentioned free advice from straight society.
Aside from being bluesy, the music is basically rock ‘n’ roll; with prominent vocal harmonies, some bluegrass (if you’re listening for it) and even some folk country and pop influences. Pick this one up so you’ll know their songs and can better enjoy them live when they come through your town!
