In January of 2008, four talented individuals came together to create an evening of song, poetry and readings in celebration of Scotland’s best-loved bard, Robert Burns. Their aim was to offer an eclectic collection of material written by and inspired by Burns—some of it familiar, and some less so—designed both to entertain, and to simplify the man and his works for those who find it all a bit daunting.
The show, called “Simply Burns,” was presented to a packed house at the Watermill bookshop in Aberfeldy, Scotland. It was intended to be a one-time-only event, but as time went by requests were regularly received for it to be repeated. Eventually, the artists decided to revive the show and take it on the road throughout Scotland and beyond.
This album includes a selection of songs, poems and letters from “Simply Burns.” If you’ve been to the show, then we hope it will be a reminder of an enjoyable evening. If you haven’t been, then we’ll hope to see you in the audience some time soon…
The Simply Burns artists are:
Douglas Craik (guitar, vocals)
Linda Dewar (guitar, vocals)
Anna Hepburn (spoken word)
Claire Hewitt (clarsach, vocals)

'One of the most enjoyable albums I have heard in recent memory. The music is haunting. The spoken work provides a wonderful counterpoint. This is an album I will play over and over for a long time to come. To all involved: Great Job!'
David Jewett, Mountain View, CA
