Album Notes

SingleMinded's name and music stand forever opposed. While their name means similarity, their sound screams a uniqueness that hints at its influences but leaves you scratching your head when the song stops. Their signature blend of melodic hard music mixed with huge vocals has set the stage for a new era what we now know as rock. Conceived in 2002 by original members and best friends Preston Palmer on lead vocals, Ben Ghormley on lead guitar and vocals and Justin king on drums. Using the bassist by committee theory, the group made their mark on the scene in a matter of months getting openers for major label artists such as "Shinedown" and "Blue October." Matt Kennett joined on bass in late 2002 and the group was solidified. After spending the next few months honing their sound live, the guys ventured into the studio to record their self-produced debut album. "Dysphoria" was released in Dec 2003. In the first two months sales went over five hundred in Little Rock alone. Though still extremely young, this Little Rock based rock band tours in four states supporting their album. Including showcasing at South By South West Music festival in Austin TX. SingleMinded has strong rotation on the top rock station in Little Rock. They derive their signature sound of deep, thought provoking, melodic rock from influences as diverse as Tool, The Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam and Tori Amos.

"A rock group never begged so hard to be as good as these guys actually are."
-Dale Olsen, The Commercial

What a great Cd...the lyrics intelligently written, the guitar work superb, & great vocals. Somewhat reminds you of Perfect Circle & similiar groups but, still a distinct sound of their own. Every song is great - highly recommended!

DYSPHORIA, the freshman release of Singleminded, is a fantastic debut from a rising band with a unique sound. The album boldly steps out and attacks with musical diversity and deeply influential songs. Rather than typical anthems celebrating teenage angst, the songs deal with relationships to God, abortion, Truth, commitment, and an array of harder-than-average issues. Musically, the album takes an interesting transition from the drawing sound of Immortal Kiss to the declaration that is Inquisition. In a day when many bands ride the talent of a single member or celebrity face, it is rare to find a band with complete talent as is displayed through the intricicies of DYSPHORIA. Many of the tracks combine soaring vocals with impeccable timing and climax to give a very dynamic quality to the album. The whole of the album takes the listener on a journey. That quality will endear the band to the listener as they travel emotional roads together through the music of DYSPHORIA.

I am not a music critic -- I am just a typical music fan. I think that if you are like me, on the look out for something new to listen to that isn't one of the bands you already know and love, you should give this disk a try. Immortal Kiss is as good as any single on the radio or on MTV today. To me, this song sticks out as the big hit of the whole album. Fortunately, though, this isn't a typical one hit wonder disk with 1 hit and 13 dogs. The disk really is solid from start to finish. CDBaby claims that Singleminded is where "Tool meets Pearl Jam". I definitely hear the Tool influence, but I wouldn't compare their sound to Pearl Jam. I hear the influence of Metallica (pre-Black album), Soundgarden, the Goo Goo Dolls, the Gin Blossoms, and Alice in Chains. Because a lot of their songs remind me of something I've heard before, I have a hard time saying that their sound is truly original. The thing is, though, their songs only vaguely remind you of something you've heard before -- these are all original songs, and they are *good* original songs. Singleminded is an incredibly talented band, and this disk showcases their abilities. I hope we get the chance to listen to their sound evolve -- I think that their talent will eventually cause the comparisons to other bands to fade as their unique sound pushes to the forefront.
