This project brings together five senior members of the Sing Sing family, the most significant géwël family in Dakar, Senegal. The group is formed around Sing Sing Faye, the Baj Géwël Ndakarou (Chief Griot of Dakar), . . Each of these men was born in the first half of the twentieth century and provides a direct link to the original géwël traditions that date back beyond the start of the nineteenth century. The four drums used are those that have the longest history in the sabar drum ensemble.
