Album Notes

Siobhan O'Malley took the New York City music scene by the lapels and hasn't looked back since! Her music is a mix of pop, country, folk, rock and blues. Her lyrics are often funny and/or poignant and/or witty. From the desolation as described in "The Fundy Bay Forecast" to the humorous dress-up story as described in "Slips My Mind", Siobhan's lyrics run the gamut.

Her voice is often gritty but can definitely have a little (Northern) twang to it. Her voice and guitar/banjo/piano playing, are often enhanced by some great NYC musicians.

Siobhan is now working with Blue Cocoon Records...a sophomore follow up album is currently being recorded. Steve Doyle on bass,Lonnie Solaway on drums, Roger Lent on horns and Doug Shank on dobro are also involved in the project....Stay tuned!

Siobhan's musical career was a bit of an accident. Theatre was her first love. But then she picked up a guitar right after college and has been physically unable to put it down. With her unique sound and smart lyrics, Siobhan O'Malley is one artist to watch.

Great Songwriting

This is a terrific CD full of wonderful, clever and catchy songs. "Belly Under" and "It's Not Yesterday" are my favorites. This is great Sunday afternoon music while relaxing on the couch. Or maybe on a nice long drive to the country. Or anytime, dang it! My only criticism is that the production quality could be a little tighter, but it doesn't really distract from the album as a whole.

Siobhan O'Malley shows great promise on this debut album. The songwriting is of VERY high quality - songs like It's Not Yesterday and Belly Under resonate in one's memory long after they've finished playing. There's no studio trickery to be found here, just an abundance of intelligence, wit and good musical sense. I ordinarily prefer a somewhat harder rocking sound, but the songs and performances on Permanent Markers have made a fan out of me. Can't wait to see what Ms. O'Malley does next.
