SIORA is a contemporary world jazz ensemble that performs a unique mix of world music (emphasizing in their first CD Brazilian sambas and bossas), and original compositions, with a deep jazz influence.
SIORA features the multi-lingual vocals of Phyllis Chapell (vocals and guitar), and the compositions and arrangements of pianist Dan Kleiman. Marc Adler (flute), Chico Huff on bass, Steve Holloway on drums and Pablo Batista and Larry Marshall on percussion round out the ensemble.
"This nine song collection captures the essence of contemporary world jazz with a great blend of Brazilian and international motifs. There is much to admire about SIORA, including brilliant solo work and group harmony."
JazzReview.com (Lee Prosser)
"Siora takes hold of world rhythms and delivers a repertoire of indigenous tunes, as well as Kleiman compositions, with assurance, insight, and affection..Chapell goes beyond singing...extending lyrics into sonic possibilities."
AllAboutJazz.com (Don Williamson)
"Kleiman plays exceptionally well......with digital virtuosity and perpetual creativity."
Chicago Tribune (Howard Reich)
Blending world music and contemporary jazz into a soundscape that needs no translation, SIORA takes you on a journey of the soul, touching down in Rio, Paris, and points beyond.
