CORY SIPPER BIOGRAPHY
People always ask: What does your music sound like? Radio has classified it as "Triple A" (Adult Album Alternative.) In reviews, I have been compared to folk/pop/rock singer-songwriters such as Joni Mitchell, Shawn Colvin and Sarah McLaghlan. The description that works best for me is: a singer/songwriter who writes from her heart as best she can.

I started performing my own creations (accompanying myself on the piano) in Junior High School. I spent one year at The Berklee College of Music in Boston in1991. When I came home, at 19, I was playing an acoustic guitar. I started out as a solo artist and recorded my first album "Life Affirming" in my own bedroom with a group of local musician-friends. After that I organized a band called "Ladybug Garden." We released one album together. The best of those two albums are now on one CD called "The Bedroom Tapes."

In 1994, as a solo artist, I signed a publishing contract with The Burt Bacharach Music Group/Windswept Pacific. I then recorded my second solo album "Swimology" and released it on my own independent label Drumdrum Records. The release of this album brought a frenzy of record label interest and I signed with an independent label called Nu Millenia. I went to Los Angeles to record an album for them with producer Richard Dashut (of Fleetwood Mac "Rumours" fame). Also involved in the project were Fleetwood Mac members Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood. Halfway into the making of my album, the company closed its doors due to internal problems. Instead of fielding more interest from the record industry, I came home and recorded my third release "Orbiter" with longtime friend and collaborator Bruce Winter as producer.

Meanwhile, "Swimology" was released in Japan and when the single "Nervous" became a hit there, I toured overseas opening for rock legend Steve Lukather (Toto). A strange mix indeed but it proved to be one of the most fun and exciting adventures I ever had. When I came back I released "Orbiter" and decided to tour the states with it. I was an opener for various known artists including The Samples, Toad the Wet Sprocket and Dan Fogelberg. I also did a national college campus tour on my own. Several songs from "Orbiter" have appeared in Lifetime's television series "The Division" as well as several independent films. At the popular internet record store CDbaby.com, "Orbiter" remains one of the top sellers. Through my own label, over 20,000 units of my albums have been sold to date.

I enjoy playing live concerts more and more with each and every show. I either play solo acoustic, in a duo with bassist Brad Cobb, or with a full band including band members: guitarist Jaime Kime (Jewel), drummer Tom Lackner, pianist Anna Abbey and pedal steel player Bill Flores. On January 31, 2002 my fourth album "Sincerely" was released. "Sincerely" was recorded in my home town of Santa Barbara, CA and produced by Bruce Winter.

Personal notes: my birthday is December 23, 1971. I live in a cozy little house with my two cats: Wally and Drumdrum and a dog named Raji. Writing songs is a deep, powerful and comfortable way for me to express myself in connection to this world. And after sharing all of this...I still say...the best way to learn about me and my music is to listen for yourself.

Press

"Sincerely" (2002)

"Her best work yet, a warmly textured realization of smartly-penned new tunes and beautifully produced by Bruce Winter...Her art- as both singer and song-maker- reaching a higher level of frution than ever before...no poses of irony or edginess here...Thankfully Sipper writes--as she explained from the stage--unapologetically 'from the heart.' Somebody's got to do it."
-Santa Barbara News Press

"{'Sincerely' is} a remarkable collection of inspired and well-crafted mini-movies....Sipper has confirmed her place as one of the most important singer-songwriters to emerge in recent years."
-Rockrgrl Magazine

"Orbiter"

Sipper's chilling ballads, engaging rockers, and heavenly acoustic tapestries coalesce around themes of personal conviction and spiritual regeneration. High-caliber musicianship and production further elevate the independently produced release. Sipper has lofty aspirations and, thankfully, talent to match." -Amazon.com

Melodies float effortlessly, lyrics stir your conscience, and a glistening, serene voice emotes an angelic passion rarely seen. It is only a matter of time before she joins the pantheon of treasured American songwriters." -Album Network

"On 'Orbiter' Cory Sipper proves she's nobody's satellite, she's her own planet." - Performing Songwriter

Orbiter' is a heavenly evolution." - Santa Barbara Independent

More praise for Cory:

"Cory Sipper is one of the most creative and talented singer/songwriters I have heard in a long time." - Mick Fleetwood

"I rarely endorse anyone but when I first heard Cory play live I was totally mesmerized. She is so authentic! I heard so many of my favorite styles of music in her, yet she made it all sound original."- Sean Kelly (The Samples)

Los Angeles Times - "Sipper's voice is as big as all outdoors."

Ussounds Magazine - "It only takes a few seconds of listening to Sipper's extraordinary voice to recognize the immense talent behind this singer/songwriter."

The Muses Muse - A Songwriters Resource "If music is a drug, this girl is dangerous; her songwriting is of a caliber rarely seen"

The Exponent (University of Alabama, Huntsville campus paper) - "You might call her down- to-earth, unassuming and kind. You might call her fetching, stylish and lovable. Then again you could just say Cory Sipper is one of the coolest and most talented

Something Special About this Album!
author: John Jeffery
Ever since I discovered Cory Sipper on the original (and now-defunct) Mp3.com, I bought all of Cory Sipper's albums. All of them are excellent, but there's something about "The Bedroom Tapes" that sets it apart from the others -- it's my personal favorite. This is no ordinary album and it has a melancholy, haunting quality to it that makes it unique in her back catalog. There are strikingly beautiful, yet haunting tracks that truly are sublime, particularly "Sanctus", "After All," "Watertown," "Straight Down the Line," "Bloom," "Us," and "This Dream." The latter track would have been a tremendously beautiful way to end the album. It is absolutely one of the most beautiful acoustic songs I've ever heard...period. These tracks alone are worth the price of the album. This album is very introspective and, at times, haunting and beautiful. Simply sublime. Highly recommended.

Bedrooms - why not?
author: Bernd Felsberger
A couple of weeks ago, I got Cory's first CD" the bedroom tapes" and I loved it alot. I always was imagining how she taped and played the songs in bedrooms. The voice is very interesting and relaxing. I love both, the acoustic and band stuff songs, Cory always has the power to get her voice to top! No doubt, she is in this category one of my favorites and I might get the other albums of her too. Cory, you have to get over here to europe to perform and maybe to record a song with me, would be fun.:) A record you need to buy, folks! get it now!!
