notes
SisterMonk Harem is fiery, original, 'acoustic world' music. Djembe, guitar, didgeridoo, dumbek, flute and stirring vocals create this spirited 'gypsy-funk' ethnofusion.
Djembe-player and vocalist, Kathleen Deane, ignites the energy with soulful rhythms and vocals. Joseph Sanchez fires up the signature sound with percussion, didgeridoo, and flute. Guitarist Jody Rubel evokes a multicultural, unpredictable topography, that keeps you guessing.
Special guests include David Ritt, principle trombonist of the Seattle Symphony, and Talia Marcus, best known for her work on Van Morrison's "Into the Music."
SisterMonk Harem formed in 1999 on Whidbey Island, north of Seattle, to explore the ferocious acoustic power of guitar, hand drums, and non-traditional instruments.
They brought this experiment to the streets of Seattle's Westlake Center, where thousands have danced to their fusion.
Their newly-released third album, "Original Mind," features stunning performances by guest trombonist David Ritt, and violinist Talia Marcus.
