A humble girl beginning... From a rural Malaysian hometown, Siti Nurhaliza Bte Tarudin had risen to become one of the most respected and successful singers in Malaysia's music industry in this decade. Claiming music industry accolades in her own country throughout her career, as well as abroad, MTV Asia Awards and Planet Music Awards in Singapore, AMI Sharp Awards in Indonesia, Shanghai Music Festival in China, Voice of Asia in Kazakhstan and Asia Pacific Song Festival in Australia. In Malaysia, almost everyone had seen her grow from a young gifted teenager into the most successful singer in the music industry.
Born in Kampung Awah (Termerloh), Pahang on 11th January 1979. Siti is the fifth child in the family of of eight siblings. She came from a musically inclined family. Her grandfather a famous violinist, her mother a traditional singer famous in Pahang, her brother and almost all in the family can sing. It's her uncle, a former singer for a local band who influenced her the most. At a tender age of 5, her parents approved of her to follow her uncle to invitational shows like wedding ceremonies and dinner parties to give her exposure performing live and she was well received by the local community in Kuala Lipis and as far as Kuantan. When children her age plays with dolls, she was determined memorizing lyrics and practicing to follow her uncle to shows as long as she could sing.
This attitude of hers was the cause of the beginning of a journey from a humble rural girl into the most successful, well-respected and still humble singer...
In 1995, her singing career looks promising. Age 16 and still studying in Clifford Secondary School, she joined the most assorted competition in Malaysia, Bintang HMI, a singing competition where talents from all over the country compete live on television. She was determined to change her family's fortune and repay back the sacrifices they had made for her. She won this competition singing 'Camar Yang Pulang' in the finals. A new star was born...
The next year in 1996, she got to cut her first 'self titled' album under the wings of composer Adnan Abu Hassan and recording label Suria Records. The album included an award winning song 'Jerat Percintaan' which won the Juara Lagu that same year. During this competition, Siti were against strong competitiors with already famous and established names in the music industry like Ziana Zain and Fauziah Latiff. A great start for a rising star...
In the second 'self-titled' album, 'Aku Cinta Padamu' shoots her to stardom in the year 1997. This catchy song was so good that it penetrated the demanding Indonesian market for the first time and was well received by the music lovers there. A feat, that only a handful of Malaysian artistes were capable of doing. She was then invited the same year to perform a special one-hour show for a television station there. This move made Siti even more popular in this region.
Along the way, year after year, albums after albums, hit songs after hits songs, Siti received many awards and made herself immortal into the Malaysia Book Of Records as the most awarded artistse in 2001. 52 awards won under her name. She's a phenomenan, a legend in the making although already is a legend in the eyes of her fans.... Due to her down to earth attitude, her kind nature, and her status in the music industry, she's been trusted to be the ambassador of the Red Cresent society, a volunteer group providing aids for the less fortunate all over the world. She too became the ambassador for the With All Our Hearts Charity Fund, a charity drive by Jusco for children less capable.
Like a flower blooming into her full majesticness, she blossoms... Giant companies like Pepsi, Maybeline of New York and Minolta from Japan snapped her up to make her their product models. TMNet Sdn. Bhd. made her their ambassador to shoot the new revamped company as a household name. For her successes at her young age, Puteri Umno named her Teen Princess of Malaysia in 2002. It's these recognitions that beautify her difficult journey as an entertainer. Her journey will continue and one day, be told by people close to her.
