In early 1986 while living in vancouver, canada, rodneyformed the band six billion monkeys.they began doing gigs around vancouver and as part of the city's 100th birthday performed live on both local and national television.
In the summer they released "the sun is shining",folk rock with a hint of punk, which produced by paul hyde gained massive airplay.
They continued to work with paul hyde and in 1987 recorded their double single, the pomp and splendour of "six billion monkeys" coupled with the 60's mod influenced "swaying to the beat".it was then decided to gamble and move six billion monkeys to england and in june 1988 the single was released.
While at first it seemed the gamble had failed interest from spain emerged and soon "six billion monkeys" was a hit in spain and across europe, taken up by american college radio it became a new wave top 100 classic.
Rodney returned to vancouver and teaming up once again with producer paul hyde recorded ,perhaps unknowningly predicting the future, the soul searching"it's a picnic".this was never released for after his return to england rodney was involved in a very serious road accident which while not ending rodney ended SIX BILLION MONKEYS.
