"sixsidedbox paves a wide, twisted road of foot-stomping psych-pop. Using lush arrangements, this six-piece makes every instrument count--the normally untrumpeted electric trumpet is an unusual standout." -the editors of music.download.com

Album Notes

SIXSIDEDBOX
Salt Lake City's sixsidedbox commands the listener's attention with powerful songwriting and gorgeous orchestration. With six band members, the listener never knows what sound will come next. It has been said that sixsidedbox sounds like what Coldplay would sound like if they did hard drugs! From the core instrumentation of bass, drums, and guitar, to the glittering fender rhodes piano and the soaring sounds of the sonic trumpet, all give way to the dynamic vocal stylings of Peter Markowski. With sixsidedbox in the driver seat, the listener is forced to hang on for dear life.

I'M GLAD WE HAD THIS CONVERSATION
sixsidedbox's debut album, "I'm Glad We Had This Conversation," unleashes their epic indie rock sounds to the masses in a big way. From the opening notes of "Stop, Drop + Roll," the listener knows they're in for an energetic, bizarre, and ultimately mind-blowing journey that reaches far beyond any conventional rock and roll album. The swirling colors and interesting instrumentation keep the listener pinned to the speakers, begging for more. From the power-poppy "Trapped in a Box," to the Beatles-esque "Wicked Disguise," to the raw rock energy of "Leave + Let Me Be," to the album's grandiose biblical-epic finale "Angels Aren't Cute, Pudgy Babies," the joys contained in this album are endless.

I was rather ambivalent about this CD when I first heard it. But it stays in my car stereo, repeating over and over, and I have no inclination to eject it. The tunes become stronger with every listen, catchier, heavier, more important. Combining some of the best jazz musicians around with a rock context works in this case. And check out the guitar work, if you have any doubts as you listen to this CD, the guitar holds it all together. Definitely a solid release... if you gave 'em the recording budget Coldplay gets, this CD might actually suck. As is, an excellent local production, closer to real music than over produced sound. The way it should be. Thanks guys, for some great stuff.
