Album Notes

The Sixtyfourwest EP is the first release from Bill Yackey, Aaron Weaver and Chris Burgess under their new highway-inspirited moniker. Having worn down the pavement playing gigs between Louisville and Lexington, Ky., the group recorded these seven songs over a year-long span. The guys also enlisted the help of veteran Gary Carter on the album’s single, That’s What Makes Her Kentucky, a testament to all things true of the Bluegrass State: bourbon, basketball, horses, and beautiful women.

The album is a fun as it reflective. Songwriter Bill Yackey goes through several ups and downs throughout the 30 minute duration, starting off with a bang with “I’ve Been There.” The fun continues into “That’s What Makes Her Kentucky,” but then deals with a classic country emotional struggle in “Taillights.” “Things Change,” which highlights Aaron Weaver on both cello and lead vocals, brings up some touchy issues, all the while reminding us musically that “this too shall pass.”

“Baby Come Over,” the highlight of the group’s previous album under the name “Bill Yackey,” prefaces “Always Think About You,” a light-hearted acoustic tune. The album ends with “Photograph,” a reflective piece about a lost relationship accented by cellos, piano and vocal layering.
