"Singer-songwriters, take note: this is what you should be doing and how you should sound."
-Smother.Net
"With such a huge, soulful voice, one would be surprised to see that Skinny White Chick is in fact a skinny white chick...I can't say enough good things about the little woman with the big voice. Her lyrics are powerful and her music, ethereal."
-Memphis Records
"Yes, it's guitar folk in the troubadour tradition, but gods, it's staggering what this woman can do!"
-Phil Brucato, newWitch Magazine
"Tucker has a voice in a million -- powerful, hypnotic, untamed and yet utterly controlled. She sings from the gut, but hers is a trained instrument."
-Maria Nutick, Green Man Review
"First off, she can honestly sing like Joni Mitchell--no lie."
-Bill Ellis, Commercial Appeal
"a strong voice and engaging presence"
-Chris Herrington, Memphis Flyer
"courageous and talented"
-Kelly Bass, Arkansas Times
SJ Tucker is a singer/songwriter, as well as guitarist, bassist, percussionist, and poet, whose strong guitar work, enormous voice, and ability to stop traffic wherever she performs belie her small stature. Based in Memphis, TN, she may be found touring her own particular brand of mind-bending acoustic reality throughout the USA, both solo and as leader of the band Skinny White Chick, in support of 'Tangles', her new collection of Love Songs, Myths, and Sticky Situations. Absolutely beautiful!

Her last album saw her flirting with multi-layered vocals on a few songs. This one is full blown! And it's just *beautiful*!!

Slow burn with a big payoff
author: Jack
Although this disc didn’t jump out at me as much as Haphazard did, the more I listen the more it grows on me. It’s definitely a slow burn with a big payoff. There’s a lot of artistic expansion on this disc, and less direct homage to the artist’s influences. The prominent vocal harmonies sound amazing; they give the songs more body and in particular propel “Pixie Can’t Sleep” towards R&B territory (in a good way). The poppier songs are accessible without being one-dimensional; “Mary Mary” and “Drum” are ethereal. Overall, there’s plenty here to sink your teeth into, lyrically and musically. Be sure to stock up on the old EP’s as well.
