What happens when you mix traditional Swedish folk music with delta blues? The answer is SKALLBOM, a Swedish group that has existed since 1997. The group worked under the name MYLLA for 9 years but changed their name to SKALLBOM in time for the CD-release.
The unusual mix of Swedish folk music and delta blues origins in the fact that the musicians Ann-Charlotte and Anders Landelius thought it could be nice to play together for a change after 6 years of marriage.
They decided almost immediately that Ann-Charlottes background in medieval music and folk music had to be the center of the music. Anders (he is more known as SLIDIN’ SLIM and got two records availble here at CD Baby) slide guitar concentrated on the groove and ambience. And it really worked!!! They found something that really connected the two genres in a very strong way and soon they started to tour in Sweden as a duo.
Under the name Mylla they have played in churches, clubs and at festivals in Sweden and have built a steady growing fan base for their truly original music.
2004 the couple wanted to take on a new path in their musical journey and invited bass virtuoso Nicklas Brännström and rhythm master Krister Persson to join the band. This brought new exciting dimensions to their music.
During the long hard winter 2006 (that lasted through April in Sweden) they recorded Ack, ack in a big old house in the middle of nowhere on the Swedish countryside. Using simple recording equipment they could focus on playing music together under relexed but still very strong emotional circumstances.
The result is a truly original record with a kind of music you might never have heard before.
