Album Notes

The musicians that were brought together for this band are the finest that money can't buy. They play for love. They play to make people dance, to forget their worries, to lift them to a place beyond the everyday where there is only joy. This ensemble plays with the enthusiasm and sense of fun that jazz once had… but that's not to say they don't take their jobs seriously. The combined musical history of these players covers everything from mainstream pop to fringe theatre; from straight-ahead jazz to classical and traditional African; circus bands to film scores, Skazz features some of Melbourne’s best from a diversity of genres: Drums David Joseph Bass Paul Binns Keyboards Michael Havir Guitar Baz Turnbull Tenor Sax Cam Robbins Trombone Kynan Robinson Trumpet Peter Knight Percussion Tim Webb This bands most recent recording has hit the scene in April 2007. THE SMOKING GUN is Ska with Class and Jazz with Arse!! Recently Skazz played to packed audiences at Commonwealth Games gigs, in Victoria. They have performed at the Apollo Bay Music Festival at Bar 303 and Bar Open. In 2002, the band recorded, Welcome to Civilisation featuring ska classics along with seven original tunes featuring irresistible grooves and funky blowing, Welcome to Civilisation and was launched at The Ninth Ward . Throughout 2002 Skazz wooed dancing audiences at Fitzroy’s Night Cat. The success of their year culminated in the exciting official opening of Melbourne’s Federation Square. During the Melbourne Festival at Clubspiegel Skazz ignited on stage with a proud line-up of six horn players blowing wildly into the night as the band kept dancers on their toes at The Famous Spiegeltent. In 2003 SKAZZ were featured in festivals such as Noumea’s annual “Live En Aout” Music Festival, and the Queenscliff Music Festival. The inspirational playing of SKAZZ transformed listeners into dancers with encore after encore! Other highlights for Skazz include playing at the St Kilda Festival, The Belgian Beer Café, Bar Open, The Beechworth Easter Festival, Barwon Heads Festival of the Sea and for a return performance at the Queenscliff Music Festival 2004.
