Pop with electronic background can be emotional, that’s big truth; but maybe it should be that way by law, because if we don’t add any heart to the machines they won’t be able to touch our thrills, even if the song is absolutely great.

Album Notes

Pop with electronic background can be emotional, that’s big truth; but maybe it should be that way by law, because if we don’t add any heart to the machines they won’t be able to touch our thrills, even if the song is absolutely great.
Skimo add some heart. There’s a huge buzz around this band, in Madrid (their HQ) it’s said that they’re one of the best independent pop bands that have emerged from the capital in the last years.

Remember their names: Mateo Campuzano (guitar), Pablo Burgués (voice), Alan Jones (bass guitar), Diego Blanco (drums), David (trumpet) and Roberto Vicente (visuals). The sequences are a team’s work.
They have released 2 demos, “Identikit” and “Canciones Recortables”, both with a great level and both found guilty of the rumours around Madrid.
But their new songs, included in their debut LP go further, so much further.
They scape from the Radiohead’s long shadow and they get warm with other suns: the last years of Lali Puna, Broadcast, Jimmy Tamborello orbit (Dntel, The Postal Service, Figurine…) There’s also a connection with combos like Animal Collective and Broken Social Scene, but without the hippy touch around.
The experimental impulse pushes them but doesn’t throw them away. The label that gets Skimo will be right, that’s why Rhonda Records can’t be wrong.
Two demos where the sound of The Postal Service and Hood were incited and that eventually became the talk of Madrid’s music press until they signed for Rhonda Records, subsidiary label of Houston Party Records, where they released “Un año de libros viejos”, debut album with warm and human electronics mixed with sound experimentation. No wonder they are followers of Lali Puna, Broadcast, Broken Social Scene or Animal Collective.
