Album Notes

FIVE -- AS IN "5" COPIES LEFT -- AND THEN IT'S GONE!!!

"Skip Heller is something special!"
-- All About Jazz

"Skip Heller offers more hope for the healthy future of jazz than anything since the appearance of John Zorn."
-- Goldmine

"Skip Heller is an amazing guy, soulful musician/composer and a good friend. I think that soon more people will discover how talented a guy he is. A visionary of sorts."
-- Dave Alvin

Over the last six years, guitarist/bandleader Skip Heller has become on of the most critically-praised emerging figures in jazz while building a body of music that at once looks to the future and holds tight to traadition.

Nowhere has he done this moreso that in his organ combo recordings. Organ combos -- long ghettoized as a less-worthy jazz style -- defined the sound of Heller's hometown, Philadelphia. One one hand, he absorbed everything about this blues-based format. On the other, he has challenged every convention about that format via his arresting original compositions, unique arrangements, and startling choices of cover songs, ranging for Uri Caine and Sun Ra to Norah Jones.

Those of you who have seen Heller live are aware that many of his live staples have never made it to disc -- until now. Studio versions of "Dave Alvin", "Don't Know Why", "Rosetta" and other gig favorites are available here. Also, a few live bootlegs (including a wild version of Sun Ra's "Interplanetary Music", featuring Arkestra saxophonist Knoell Scott tearing it UP) have been included.

For those who don't know Heller's work, this a perfect starting place. For those that have the records, eight of the sixteen cuts have never been released before, including the original Skip Heller Trio demo.

THIS IS A VERY LIMITED EDITION!!!
