"SKIP HELLER IS SOMETHING SPECIAL" -- all about jazz
THE ONE THAT KICKED IT ALL OFF!! EXPANDED TO 73 MINUTES!!
COUCH, LOS ANGELES put Skip Heller on the map when it was first released in 1999. Despite its release on a tiny label with no ad budget or publicity staff of any type, it became the little record that could. Cuts from it wound up on TONY HAWK'S GIGANTIC SKATE PARK TOUR, in indie movies, and SH wound up on speed dial at the Cartoon Network, all because of COUCH.
Also, the critical community jumped up and heaped the massive praise on the little record that could. "Stinging", "innovative", "a doozy" "you NEED this record" etc etc etc
So, five years is up, and the rights to all this good stuff have reverted to SH. So what's he do? He puts it together with all kinds of unreleased material, including stuff from the follow-up that never came out (JAZZ FROM HELL[ER]), movie music, short interlude cuts with Word Jazz giant Ken Nordine, and even a Christmas song. Twice as much music for about half what the record cost at the time of it's release.
