Album Notes

Scott Klamm performs children’s and family music for audiences in the Kansas City area. His most recent compilation is Crawlin’ With Kids (2008), a collection of Americana-styled children’s songs that shows an equal comfort with bluegrass, blues, zydeco, roots rock, and folk. The kid-friendly lyrics range from food to flip-flops, and squirt-guns to sleepytime. Written primarily for children ages 3-8, this CD nevertheless includes interactive nonsense rhymes that invite the whole family to sing along or just get up and dance!

As a multi-instrumentalist, Scott covers the bases on acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin, autoharp, dulcimer, and hand percussion. He enlisted the talents of some of Kansas City’s finest musicians – T.J. Erhardt (Nace Brothers Band) on piano and accordion, Kelly Werts (Plaid Family, Connie Dover) on fiddle and guitar, and Mark Thies (BCR, Jim “Mr. Stinky Feet” Cosgrove) on bass. Monique Danielle lends her voice to a gentle lullaby to finish the collection.

Scott has brought smiles to hundreds of pre-school and grade-school aged children. His live performances often feature unusual, quirky instruments from various folk traditions, and can also be adapted to educational programs. He has worked in kindergarten classes since 2005 as an “artist-in-residence,” and periodically leads workshops on hand percussion and building simple folk instruments.

Beyond the children’s music arena, Scott performed in the 2008 Smithsonian Institution/Kansas Humanities Council touring exhibition “New Harmonies – Celebrating American Roots Music.” In 2004-05, he performed at the Lewis & Clark commemorative events as part of the Tent of Many Voices sponsored by the National Park Service. His recorded music has been used in the independent film Twilight On The Rails (White River Productions, 2004) and the audio biography Frontier Freedom Fighter: The Story of Clarina Nichols (Quindaro Press, 2004). His first recording, Shady Grove (1993), was focused largely on the old-time style of Appalachian mountain music, and featured several of Scott’s championship-winning arrangements for the mountain dulcimer.

I have a 6 year old and 9 year old...and our goal is to learn to sing ALL the words to Fee-fi-fiddleo-fum - CORRECTLY. It's my son's favorite! We've gotten some strange looks from other drivers as we sing it in the car with the windows down. Just try it! It's a hoot! I swear, The Flip-Flop shoes song is my daugter's theme song; however, her favorite is Rose's Lullaby. It's so touching and the vocalist is amazing. I liked this CD so much so much that I bought it for their teacher's Christmas presents.

What a wonderful CD! This music is whimsical and happy--great for kids. However, don't leave out potential listeners of other ages! When I played the CD for my 80 year old Dad, he started to dance! This CD would be great to play during exercise classes for seniors. You just can't help but dance and move (and smile) to this music!
