Album Notes

The first full-length CD by Detroit area-based Skrapz, "The 12 Step Program" is essential to any underground hip hop, and yes, mainstream listeners cd case. Skrapz proves to hold his own on this super full length l.p. Topics range from home town surroundings disappointment, love quarrels, war protest and of course, mic skills. This debut solo from an MC with a long time group affiliation (Level Jumpers, etc.) is what everyone would expect and more. On tracks such as the stand out "Abuse it," "Bring it back later," and "Fast lane only" (which is some serious drum & bass that hip hop hasn't done right until this!)Skrapz does something he has not done in a long, long time: OWNES. The title proves through tracks like "Cry," "All I know, " and "A better time" that the 12 step program isn't an album promoting drinking or the decline of it, but therapy.

NO WONDER IT'S SOLD OUT, HERE! my bad for underestimating Skrapz's crew. The cd I was referring to in my other review here was a release of theirs that isn't even for sale here at cdbaby

probably the dopest Hip-Hop cds I've heard from the D. thus far

I've heard alot of Motor City emcees, groups, etc. for years and this is NOT to put Skrapz's "12 Step Program" on a pedastal but seriously, tracks like "Just Alright" touch home more than most other Detroit dedicated songs I'm familiar with.Just the feel of the beat, the sampled singing on the chorus, & Skrapz subject matter would almost make any Detroit born / michigander choke up.And thats saying the least about this cd, overall.Chances are there's at least 1 track on here for everybody. With Skrapz debut of "12 Step Program" he holds his own in lettin listeners know this cd is quite a bit better than "Just Alright"

I just got this last nyte in the mail!...along with 2 other cd's.BUT I still haven't listened to every track on "12 Step Program" & so far I'm automatically HOOKED! I'm not too familiar w/ Level Jumpers & which ever old cd of theirs I did review I wasn't too much impressed.but THIS?!...for ANY fan of oldschool classic HIP-HOP, THIS IS FOR YOU! some of the beats made me feel like I was back 'n the 90s! THIS CD IS A BANGER! Skrapz has shocked the hell outta me! I will DEFINITELY be lookin into more releases by this dope Motown native emcee who's NO stranger to its underground scene.Wasn't he a part of the legendary House of Krazees back 'n the day?...I'm glad I own this as part of my huge collection
