notes

born on a rooftop in the east village of new york city in the summer of 2004, skyfactor was formed when two unique musical paths, destined to cross, finally met.

one path, jon rubin, had been playing guitar practically since birth, and started a band called sky blues in high school with his older brother and two friends. after countless battle of the bands and a taste of local success, they spent the next 7 years writing, recording and touring, playing frequent shows along the east coast as well as releasing 3 independent cds to critical acclaim.

the other path, bob ziegler, sang for as long as he could remember, and formed his first band in san diego at age 15. after getting his chops on many a california stage, he continued on to front the popular brother rabbit at the university of michigan, and most recently november factory, who perform often in new york and new jersey.

how these paths crossed is the stuff of legend; in late 1997, both jon and bob's bands shared a sold-out bill on what turned out to be (unbeknownst to them) each groups' final performance. friends suggested repeatedly that the two pair up for a new project, but it was not yet to be. nevertheless, they shared a mutual respect for each other's style and creative drive, and soon became friends. after an impromptu jam session a full 7 years later, an undeniable musical chemistry was set into motion and the timing seemed right to finally join forces.

and so skyfactor was born. the band's versatile sound, described as acoustic pop/rock with an edge, will tear at your heartstrings one moment while making you want to get up and shout at the top of your lungs the next. refreshingly spare while layered with deep emotion, their songs put a voice to the feelings we all experience and the ups and downs that come with being alive.

one listen to the music and you will understand what all the buzz is all about. and just like the new record 'take this chance', once you experience skyfactor live - with jon's brother cliff on bass and guadeloupe native steve belvilus on drums/percussion - you are immediately invited to join in their journey and go wherever the music might lead.

  • A CD loaded with catchy melodies and slick acoustic guitar playing.

Bob and Jon have gelled perfectly on their debut collaboration “Take This Chance.” The CD is loaded with catchy melodies and slick acoustic guitar playing. Jon’s rock ‘n roll influence is apparent from the get go as the CD opens with a killer driving riff on “Something’s Gonna Change.” Bob’s smooth vocal tone, rawness, and sincerity come through on every track and really shine on “Okay,” “Place I Go,” “Aiden’s Song”, and the uplifting album closer “Take This Chance.” The Skyfactor debut is full of memorable lyrics and melodies that you should be singing along with for a long time to come.
