Obstructed View is Skyhead's 19th outing, and like the previous albums it is completely different from the others. Uniquely all intsrumental, it has a soundtrack vibe. From opening to closing credits, building tension to release, Obstructed View flows like a film from beginning to end with ambient grooves and guitar as leading characters. Though more downbeat than the projects that came before, it contains a few scenes of weird percussion breaks and Zappa-esque guitar solos. Obstructed View is an eclectic mix of sounds and influences under the directorship of Skyhead.
Skyhead is a multi-instrumentalist who has been recording and performing in the Detroit area in a number of bands and as a solo artist for over 20 years including music in award winning animated films and a contributer to the Talking Heads Tribute CD which can be found at http://www.talking-heads.net/tribute/index.html A steady diet of alternative public radio has probably ruined his chances of ever residing in a single style of music or of ever finding a band willing to create music that spans the many genres that interest him.

Music to ponder the depths of reality.

From the clever cover art and laser etching on the disc, to the thoughtful delivery of a musical perspective on life, this is his best yet. I can't seem to get it out of my CD player! Give it a listen, you won't be disappointed. Highly recommended.

Great collection! Very "listenable" ambient-guitar-keyboard stuff

Really cool CD. A nice departure from Skyhead's vocal stuff. If you like Eno, Talking Heads, Beck, The Beta Band (maybe), you'll probably dig this CD. Awesome bass line in the title track, and "The Reach" is just about one of the most beauiful songs ever written - by anyone. "WMD" Rocks! For an ambient collection, the whole thing rocks!! Highly recommended.

Great Seats!

While this CD is called Obstructed View, there is nothing that gets in the way from a great listen. If you like fusion, jazz, rock, prog, or even funk or world beat as choice for your listening pleasure, you're going to dig this CD. Taking cues from some of Zappa's later experiments that incorporate a multitude of styles held together by a strong guitar sensibility, Obstructed View demonstrates some great songwriting and good chops on the axe. There's even some hint of Jade Warrior (Brit Prog Rockers) in the quiet moments. Highly recommended.
