Skyhouse Music is home to the musical endeavors of songwriters/producers Harris Levon McRae and Betsy Pott, a musically diverse duo hailing from Portland, Oregon. This web site features their solo work, work as a duo, work with their pop, rock, reggae band Skyhouse, and many tasty combinations in between. Betsy and Harris have really embraced the concept of the sound system—a group of DJs and engineers contributing and working together as one, often playing and producing one particular kind of music such as reggae or hip-hop. The duo has expanded the concept to include many types of music and many types of musicians. While Skyhouse loves playing at nightclubs and bars, they also enjoy rocking house parties, block parties and the intimate settings of coffeehouses. Their passion though is songwriting.

Influences:

Rock, reggae, electronica, blues, R&B, hip-hop—you never know what type of joint Skyhouse Music will come up with or in what fashion. Betsy and Harris dip into a seemingly bottomless grab bag of musical interests.

Hard at work on their new Skyhouse album LIGHTNING #2, the duo gives a taste of things to come with the danceable Pop-Rock, R&B heater “When She Came In”. The group has experimented with several versions including one co-produced by hip-hop/R&B producer Hi-Clarity and a more acoustic version with hand drums and timbales as the main percussion tracks. The latest version features Betsy on keyboards, guitar, and acoustic piano, Hall and Oates drummer Michael Braun on drums and percussion, and Harris on lead vocals and rap sangin’.

The SKYHOUSE Sound:

In medium bowl, with spoon, mix well singer/songwriter acoustic guitars, piano, blues harmonica, bass, keyboards, drums, and electric guitars. Add R&B, reggae, pop, electronica, and hip-hop beats. Sprinkle with vocals. Shape mixture into ten to twelve songs about five minutes long. Cook in a rock oven with high-high heat.
